U.S. Department of Labor awarding $2 million to support workers after Pixelle Ohio paper mill closure
Print

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (From news reports) -- The Pixelle Paper Mill in Chillicothe closed last month, leaving hundreds of employees without jobs and affecting the whole community.

Now, the U.S. Department of Labor has announced in a press release that they are awarding the state $2 million "to support employment and training services for workers affected by the closure."

The release states that, after an initial mill closure announcement, efforts had been made to find a buyer. However, those efforts did not find success, and the company announced they would close on Aug. 10 and lay off 780 workers.

"Administered by the department's Employment and Training Administration, this National Dislocated Worker Grant allows the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to provide retraining and skills development services for dislocated workers seeking assistance in counties," the release reads.
