In a recent press release, UPM Specialty Materials announced that it and Royal Vaasseen introduce an ultra-high barrier paper packaging solution suitable for pet food treats and snacks.

The press release states that "As the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces stricter PFAS requirements, brand-owners need solutions they can rely on. This PFAS-free, recyclable* fibre-based packaging solution supports compliance with regulatory requirements without compromising performance or brand value.

Pet treats are often oily and aromatic and have traditionally relied on plastic or aluminum laminates or papers with PFAS-based grease barrier.
