The pulp mill and one paper machine will cease operations June 30, 2026. A second paper machine will cease operations Sept. 30, 2026. The changes will affect approximately 200 employees. Two hundred employees are expected to stay on staff.

Western Forest Products Inc. announced that employees represented by the United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 at La-kwa sa muqw Forestry Limited Partnership ("LFLP") have voted to ratify a new collective agreement. The 6-year collective agreement is retroactive and expires June 14, 2030.

The workers at Union Gap will be offered severance packages, and some may be offered positions at other facilities. Layoffs are also planned for CA and Kentucky this year.

Angella Broesch was promoted to Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Chris Forrey was promoted to Senior Vice President of Finance & Investor Relations. Both promotions are effective February 9, 2026.

Crews successfully extinguished the flames, and no injuries were reported.

A fire broke out at the Twin Rivers Paper Company in Little Falls on Thursday, Feb. 12.

International Paper will be closing its container plant, the remaining mill in Georgetown, later this year, according to a company spokesperson.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department crews extinguished a fire at a recycling facility west of Downtown Jacksonville that erupted Monday afternoon, Feb. 9, sending smoke into the air that was visible for miles.

The cause of the pipe break is under investigation, and officials are assessing the extent of the damage to the property.

About 120 employees were laid off in July, with hopes they would return to work in the new year.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The statement says a major factor was last month's announcement of the closure of Domtar's pulp mill in Crofton, B.C., which Atli says effectively eliminated the demand for wood chips produced at Beaver Cove.

The company said that the pilot is safe and sustained only minor injuries. Weyerhaeuser added that it's working with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine what led up to the crash.

Sprinklers helped control a fire inside industrial equipment at the longtime Ahlstrom facility, and no injuries were reported.

Georgia-Pacific shut down the facility last July.

Kasie Malcolm, a chemical engineering student participating in a co-op program through UMaine, died at the hospital last night from injuries sustained at the plant. Malcolm had worked at the mill since June.

The union members had already walked off the job once for 36 hours on Nov. 21 and 22, then a second time for seven days starting on Dec. 10. This indefinite strike is therefore their third walkout.

Upon arrival, crews found a baling machine on fire in an isolated room, with smoke conditions throughout the building. The facility's automatic sprinkler system activated and successfully kept the fire in check, fire officials said. Fire crews then supplemented the sprinkler system with additional suppression efforts to further extinguish the fire.
