GEORGIA (From news reports) -- Officials have recovered a body that was reported in a retention pond at Georgia-Pacific's facility in Brunswick.
The body was removed from the pond about 11:30 a.m. Friday, the newspaper reported, citing Glynn County Police Department spokesperson Earl Wilson.
As of Friday night, the cause of death had not been confirmed.
The body was scheduled to be transported to the GBI crime lab in Pooler for an autopsy Monday, the newspaper reported.
About 7:50 a.m. Friday, the Glynn Brunswick 911 Center received a call of a possible deceased person at Brunswick Cellulose, citing the GCPD.
"Due to the nature of the chemicals and use of the pond, recovery of the remains is delayed to ensure the health and safety of all police and fire personnel," according to a statement from officials before the body was located.
Glynn County Fire Rescue members had to be decontaminated after they were exposed to chemicals in the retention pond.
The identity of the deceased could not be readily determined due to the body's state of decomposition, officials said, but he did use the pronoun "he" when referring to the remains.
