ALPHARETTA, Ga.-- (News release) -- Mativ announced the release of its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, the company's first comprehensive, enterprise-wide report following the publication of its 2022 ESG Tear Sheet earlier this year. The 2023 report provides an in-depth look at Mativ's key achievements and ongoing initiatives in environmental sustainability, product stewardship, and social and governance topics, including workplace health and safety, ethics and integrity, and more.
"At Mativ, we're committed to creating long-term value for our shareholders through continuous improvement and an intense focus on good business practices," said Julie Schertell, president & CEO of Mativ. "This report highlights the progress we've made advancing our environmental, social and governance efforts at all levels of our business and sets the stage for future advancements. By openly sharing our approach and achievements, we're building trust with our stakeholders as we continue to grow responsibly."
The report outlines several key initiatives/advancements, including the following:
Environmental: In 2023, Mativ completed its first company-wide climate scenario analysis to evaluate potential climate-related risks and opportunities. Additionally, the company expanded its Scope 3 emissions calculation to include all operations, calculating only those categories deemed most relevant under the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Scope 3 Standard criteria.
Safety: Safety remains central to Mativ's values, with several key initiatives launched in 2023. The introduction of the Safety Key Element Maturity Assessments (SKEMA) allows the company to evaluate its safety practices against an ideal standard, while a newly refined balanced scorecard tracks ongoing safety performance and accountability. Additionally, the Safety Capital Risk Assessment Process and Capital Design Safety Review were established to ensure safety considerations are integrated at every stage of capital investment projects, prioritizing those with the highest potential for risk reduction.
Ethics Training: Mativ's code of conduct is central to the company's cultural and ethical foundation. In 2023, Mativ revamped its annual code of conduct training program for all employees which focuses on four main themes: identifying and reporting fraud, understanding unconscious bias and its impact on sexual harassment, protecting data, and fostering respect in the workplace.
