ROCKFORD, Ill. (From news reports) - The closing of the local International Paper facility affects at least 100 workers.

As of Dec. 18, the International Paper facility in Rockford has officially closed its doors.

In October, International Paper announced that their national layoffs and closings would be affecting Rockford.

International Paper is undergoing a transformational journey to become a stronger, more profitable sustainable packaging solutions company. A critical step in this journey is to organize our teams and resources to create the most value for customers and shareholders. As a result, we made the difficult decision to cease operations at our Rockford, Illinois packaging facility. Operations will end on or before December 18, 2024. Our departing team members will be offered severance packages, outplacement services and mental health resources. All affected employees can apply for positions at other IP facilities. We greatly appreciate the many contributions our departing team members have made during their time with IP.

We have completed a plan to ensure a seamless transition of production at the affected facility to other IP locations and will work closely with our customers throughout this process to ensure they continue to receive the high service levels they expect from us. The decision to close this facility was difficult but these actions will allow us to shift resources and increase our investments in facilities where we can best serve our customers through improved quality, reliability and service delivery.
