Empire Recycled Fiber announces it will relocate containerboard project to Dayton, Ohio
Print

DAYTON, Ohio (News release) -- Empire Recycled Fiber (ERF) says it has made the decision to relocate its recycled containerboard mill project from Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania to the Dayton, Ohio regional market.

The company has identified an existing industrial building with the necessary size and scope to accommodate the installation of our 210" wide paper machine and stock prep system. This decision to "retrofit" an existing industrial site vs building greenfield has substantially reduced our projected capital and operating costs, but has also reduced the time line to secure commercial operations of our 350,000 tpy recycled container-board paper manufacturing facility.

All the necessary infrastructure to support the full operating requirements of the new facility are installed on site; including 40 Megawatts of electricity, rail siding, abundant process water, access to existing sewer treatment and natural gas supply.

Within a 600 mile radius of the new ERF site resides 57% of the total United States population, creating one of the largest regional supplies of recovered paper, as well as, one of the largest regional box markets.

According to reports, the project initially was announced in 2020 as a recycled pulp mill that was to produce 440,000 tons per year before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic forced Empire to adjust its plans. The company, which is based in Springboro, Ohio, then turned its focus to developing a manufacturing facility that will produce approximately 350,000 tons per year of recycled containerboard while consuming 400,000 tons per year of old corrugated containers (OCC) and mixed paper.
